Mastering Your Morning Cup – How to Make the Perfect Coffee
There’s something timeless about the quiet ritual of brewing your morning coffee. For many, it’s more than a drink — it’s a moment of calm before the day begins.
But here’s the secret: great coffee isn’t just about a fancy machine. It’s about quality beans, method, and attention to detail.
Freshness First
Grind just before brewing — ground coffee loses flavour quickly.
Use a burr grinder (manual or electric) for consistent results.
Choose Beans About Coffee’s small-batch roasted beans for peak freshness.
Water – The Unsung Ingredient
Coffee is 98% water — make sure yours is clean and fresh.
If your tap water is chlorinated or mineral-heavy, use a simple jug filter.
Ideal temperature: 90–96°C (let boiled water sit for 30 seconds before pouring).
Get the Balance Right
Start with 1–2 tablespoons of coffee per 180ml water.
Adjust until you find your perfect strength.
Our bean bags include roast-specific brewing ratios to guide you.
Choose Your Brewing Method
Each method offers unique flavours:
Cafetière (French press) – full-bodied, rich.
Moka pot – intense and aromatic.
V60 pour-over – bright, clean notes.
Filter machine – simple and consistent.
Tip: Ask our baristas in Oudtshoorn for personalised brewing advice.
From Farm to Mug – The Journey of Your Coffee Bean
Every cup tells a story — of land, labour, and care.
At Beans About Coffee, we source directly from trusted farmers in Africa and South America. These are often small, family-run farms where coffee is grown with deep respect for the land and people.
A Labour of Love
Coffee grows in cherries, ripening over months in high-altitude regions.
Hand-picked only when perfectly ripe.
2,000 cherries are needed for just 1kg of roasted coffee.
Ethically Sourced, Transparently Traded
We pay farmers fairly, supporting communities and sustainable farming.
When you choose us, you’re supporting:
Fair pay for growers
Environmentally responsible farming
Long-term relationships built on trust
Roasting with Intention
Image Suggestion: Beans roasting in a small-batch roaster
Every origin has its own flavour:
East Africa – floral, tea-like
Latin America – chocolatey, rich
High-altitude varieties – bright, citrusy
We roast in small batches to preserve these unique profiles.
